TPL Insurance partners with Research and Development Foundation (RDF) for Women Farmers Poverty Alleviation Programme
Karachi, June 8, 2022: As part of TPL Insurance’s (TPLI) CSR efforts towards gender equality, TPL Insurance and Research and Development Foundation (RDF) signed an MOU to launch a Women Farmers Poverty Alleviation Programme in Sindh.
This initiative aims to build livestock management capacity for women farmers across Sindh through tailor-made training sessions. These sessions will cover the importance of vaccinations, physical care of livestock and share best practices with respect to improving yields.
Phase 2 of the programme will deliver a digital platform that aims to connect these rural farmers to urban consumers thus giving them access to a larger market.
Along with the TPLI and RDF Teams, German Consul General Holger Ziegeler was present at the signing ceremony to share his views on public and private sector collaborations as well as the role of governments in making a positive social impact in Pakistan.
Talking about the initiative, CEO TPLI, Mohammad Aminuddin said, “This collaboration will enable TPL Insurance to introduce innovative and tech-driven products while launching women empowerment programs related to livestock. At TPL Insurance, we believe in increasing the penetration of insurance in Pakistan and have been at the forefront of launching technological and innovative Agri products, such as Yield-based crop insurance and Livestock insurance. TPL Insurance intends to further develop its digital assets and bring efficiencies through the digitization of business processes.”
While discussing the partnership, RDF CEO, Ashfaque Ahmed commented, “Though online selling is not a new phenomenon in Pakistan, but rural producers and traders are not fully skilled and mobilized to access a virtual selling platform. Given the fact that women manage the livestock, but hardly sell their animals themselves in the markets, due to certain cultural barriers and knowledge gaps. I am confident that this program, which is innovative in its design, would empower rural women farmers of southern districts of Sindh, to sell their animals through virtual platforms with ease.”
